My art practice is devoted to tending relationships, becoming-with, and being process oriented rather than outcome oriented.
The material support for my art practice spans watercolor, oil, botanical and clay pigment on paper all of which I make or source carefully.
I care to be sweet on, ally with, and build relational layers of commitment and solidarity with the pigments, the paper, and the plants that hold my concepts in form. Bowing to deep time understanding; I’m informed by the long view, glacial temporalities that teach me to move at the pace of slow and tender.
I am currently bridging traditional and community research with experimental study through sensory and metaphysical engagement with the local plant community. As part of the youngest species on planet earth, I humbly desire to apprentice with the plant teachers. Through the facilitation of plant relationship deepening, my art practice critiques species hierarchy and instead invites participants to engage with the physical paintings of the plant studies as a jumping off point into cultivating their own relationships with plants as teachers.
Plants are the support beams in our houses and the life nourishment animating our breath and bodies. They are the peace on our eyes when we see a sparkling flower nursing, and being nursed by, the many jewels with wings. Plants are the wash of relief in our hearts as we lean upon the trunk of someone much taller and older and wiser than us. They are generous beings; giving beauty, wisdom, and spirit.
I believe plants want to connect deeper with people; that they are patiently waiting for more of us to melt our solipsism into expansive comradeship. My art serves as a dedication of attention, gratitude and love toward the multispecies beings I am in community with.
